PIN-SME Networking Session at ICT Event 2008 in Lyon

Brussels, 6. November, 2008 - PIN-SME, the association representing small and medium-sized enterprises in Europe’s ICT sector, is organising a Networking Session at the ICT-2008 event in Lyon. Entitled ICT-SMEs: Your Innovation Partners, the Session will focus on the role of small ICT-based businesses as agents of change in the innovation process.

PIN-SME warns the Commission that SMEs need innovation rather than research

Brussels, 5 November, 2008 - PIN-SME has elaborated a response to the European Commission’s consultation on “A Strategy for ICT R&D and Innovation in Europe”. PIN-SME considers that Europe’s ICT R&D and innovation agenda is skewed too heavily towards research. A rebalancing is needed. While Europe must continue to develop new technologies, it should devote greater efforts to innovation to ensure research results find a market.

PIN-SME intervenes on the role of ICT SMEs’ associations at the CEI Summit in Chisinau

Brussels, 9 October, 2008 – At the 11th Summit Economic Forum of Central European Initiative (CEI) hosted by Moldova, PIN-SME participated on a conference session together with the European Commission. The session is entitled “SMEs and ICT in the CEI Region: Entrepreneurial associations’ role in fostering growth and competitiveness” and PIN-SME was represented by the Secretary General Mr Sebastiano Toffaletti. Moreover, Martin Prager and George Brashnarov - Austrian and Bulgarian PIN-SME members - intervened on behalf of their national organizations.

PIN-SME invited at WCC 2008

Brussels, 15 September, 2008 - PIN-SME President, Johann Steszgal, and Vice- President Italy,Gianfranco Granara,were iinvited as speakers at the 20th WCC (World Computer Conference). The event organized under the advocacy of IFIP (International Federation for Information Processing) took place for the first time in Italy, in Milan from 7th to 10th September 2008, at the MIC - Milano Convention Centre.

ICT small businesses are the key to fostering innovation and growth and to disseminating and promoting the use of ICT. Europe’s 23 million European SMEs need ICT to enhance their competitiveness and be more prosperous.

Half of the productivity growth of the EU comes from the ICT sector. In 2006, SMEs represented a share of more than two thirds of the workforce of the European ICT services industry. Micro-enterprises alone account for more than 94% of the total number of enterprises.

PIN-SME: the voice of ICT small and medium sized enterprises in Europe

PIN-SME is an association formed in 2007 to represent the interests of Europe’s ICT SME sector. Currently ten national and regional associations are members, representing some 50,000 ICT SME companies that account for around 200k jobs. PIN-SME aims to ensure that ICT SMEs get talked to rather than just talked about. It provides a voice for ICT SMEs in the policy and business arenas and is already represented in several EU expert groups and taskforces.
